A Quarter of a Century Ago

A quarter of a century ago...
  • A gallon of gas was 89 cents (those were the days)
  • The US bombed Lybia (hmmm, dejavue?)
  • Ronald Reagan was the president
  • Smoking was banned on all public transport (thank goodness!)
  • The Challenger exploded
  • The first laptop computer (which I write from now) was invented
  • E-mail became possible
  • Top Gun, Crocodile Dundee, and the Karate Kid II could be found in theaters
  • Billy Joel, Whitney Houston, and Madonna rocked the radio
  • The Cosby Show, Cheers, and Growing Pains could be viewed on TV and Oprah aired her first show
  • And the best of all... This boy was born.

It was his golden birthday this year, and we now have to break into 3 boxes of candles instead of just 2.
We celebrated by going to the movies, his favorite thing to do; Famous Daves, where he ordered not the large, nor the XL, but the XXL rack of ribs, he was pretty surprised (I don't know how) to see how big it was when it came out; then finished the night with cake, ice cream, games and friends.
On his real birthday, after a long day at work he opened a subscription to Inc. magazine, and a blanket made with minkie, 2 things he asked for.  Ha, pretty boring if you ask me.

 HAPPY 25th BIRTHDAY COLBY!
The world wouldn't be the same without you

Easter

I love this time of year, with Spring's warm weather (when and if it will let us have it), the color coming back instead of the same old bleak white look, and Easter.

It was pretty uneventful this year, but we did our annual Easter egg dye, and our regular family dinner. We missed out on Grandpa's Easter Brunch due to everyone's hectic schedules.  But we still enjoyed our Easter Sunday, and got dressed up for the occasion in our Easter best.
We are grateful for Christ and His great sacrifice in our behalf.  This time of year is perfect to reflect on the rebirth and to know that He lives!

Baby "Shower"

My sister's good friend Amy is having a baby boy very soon, and my sister threw her a little shower.
She asked for my help in decorating, and together we got some ideas from this blog, and this is how it turned out.

Although it was not as extravagant as the one we got the inspiration from, I thought it turned out okay for rookies.
Congratulations Amy, you will make a great mommy!

Proud Mary

Colby is going to kill me, cause I promised I wouldn't, but I just HAD to.
For extra credit in all his classes at school, Colby joined DECA.  For all those who ask, "But isn't that for high school?"  Yes, but there is a collegiate DECA too.
Well at the end of February they went to state, and Colby took 2nd in one category and 1st in another!  I couldn't have been more thrilled.  He says school is not his thing... psht!
This picture was taken after much begging and pleading.
So, he got to go on a fun to trip to Florida for nationals this past week.  He went without me, and I was devastated, but unfortunately my finals fell at the same time, and I wouldn't be able to make it.
So, for his first time he went to Universal Islands of Adventure, with Harry Potter World, (So jealous!)
And Disney World.
Hog's Mead
Can you see the Hogwart's Express?  So jealous!
A glimpse of Hogwarts

Colby said this is me there with him in spirit. I must have pretty broad shoulders:)
Love the firework shows at Disney, makes you remember what it's like to be a kid again!
Congrats Colby!  Please never leave me again, but know that I am one proud wifey.
